Reflections

I had an exciting workday today…something exploded in the building around 2pm; we had multiple fire engines, police, etc. at the medical building. By 3pm, everyone was still running around, so the senior doc called it a day. Need to say no more, we all ran for our cars before he could change his mind.

Settling myself in for the evening with an adult beverage, I started to reflect on some of the differences between the ole church secretary job and this current one in a medical office.. Two major things came to the forefront:
          1. church people expect the church secretary to be on the job on Sunday morning or any other time she’s in the building.[yes, I said “she”…have you ever seen a male church secretary???? It goes along with the female/support roles in churches…please, don’t get me started] There seems to be this invisible signed etched on her forehead [which she knows nothing about] that says it’s ok to interrupted her for the copy machine [oh, I don’t know how to run it; there’s paper jam, I wanted pink paper instead of blue, what do I do???] while you’re sitting in the church pew getting yourself prepared for Sunday worship. It’s seems it’s ok to them that they ask your where’s this or that is, hand you something to put in the bulletin, question you why something isn’t in the bulletin, tell you their name in spelled wrong in the church phone directory and expect you to remember by Monday, all while your trying to read the sermon verse for the day. Church folk have no qualms about calling you any time of day or nite about church business, meetings, tomorrow’s agenda, etc.
          2. Church people seem to have no boundaries regarding personal or workspace. It all belongs to God, so I can take it, use it, misplace it, leave crumbs, soda, coffee, cut paper, and anything else you could do in an office and put on your desk without leaving a note or cleaning it up. God’s grace covers it all.
I am happy to say that I have not had that happen once this week on my new job.
I left the office in the midst of a building fire with pens, paper, Monday’s scheduled appointments on my desk. I know when I come to work on Monday, that my desk will look EXACTLY as I left it…with nothing added or taken away.
When I leave a 5pm, I leave with no expectations that I’ll get a phone call from someone at work. We had a great time conversatin at work but it’s BYE BYE for the weekend.
Stay tuned for the continuing saga of the “ousted church secretary.”

Considering a Name Change

Yea, I know...haven't done this in a while.  There has been drama in the ministry.  Seems like, due to the economy and building loan problems, the tithing is down and we're in the red.  So, they [this is an elder/trustee run church] want to cut expenses but reorganizing from the bottom up[??????????] Anyway, I'm on the bottom rung of the totem pole and was initially cut to part-time.  PT was not going to pay the bills!!! There was lots of nashing of teeth and tears b'cause of the way it was done.  So, I started the resume/interview process after 14 years of being out of touch with that stuff.  The short of it is that I now have a full-time job in a doctor's office starting Monday, March 15th.  Boy, were they surprised I found a job and so soon.  When one door closes He opens up another.  Praise, glory, and honor belong to Him.  So keep your dial set on this station for further developments.

Bill Gates Says It All

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not, and will not, learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality, and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.   BTW, guess  ya didn't see this on any front page, tv...

Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss

Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping -- they called itopportunity.

Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault , so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades, and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life...

Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off, and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF.

Do that on your own time.

Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life, people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

If you agree, pass it on.

If you don't agree stick your head in the sand and take a deep breath!

If you can read this -Thank a teacher!

If you can read this in English thank a soldier!!!
