In honor of John Caraian
March 18, 1916 – January 4, 2008
We were friends who never said goodbye. In remembrance, here’s a recipe we shared, enjoy as we did.
5 Flavor Pound Cake
2 – ¼ lb sticks salted butter
½ c. vegetable oil
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
Mix above well, adding eggs one at a time.
Sift together:
3 c. flour
¾ tsp baking powder
½ tsp. salt
Add to above mixture, alternating with 1 c milk.
Add:
1 tsp. each of extracts: vanilla, rum, butter, lemon, coconut plus 3 tsp brandy liquor (cognac, rum) pour batter into a 10 “ tube pan sprayed well with PAM
Bake 1 ½ hours @ 325 degrees.
Glaze:
1 cup sugar
½ c. water
1 tsp each of same extracts above plus 2 tsp brandy, cognac or rum. Heat just to boiling point and pour over warm cake.
Good night Mr. Caraian...where ever you are!
I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, Sandy.
